Sylvester Stallone’s Ab Workout

Sylvester Stallone is well known for his action packed and hard hitting movies, including Rocky and Rambo, and in both these movies he sported a set of six pack abs many people envied. While he’s older now, he still has abs that many men half his age wish they had, so he recently let the average man in on his core toning secrets and training tips with the Sylvester Stallone’s Ab Workout.

In the Sylvester Stallone’s Ab Workout there are four exercises he suggests that men need to master to get their core up to snuff, including Floor Crunches, Twisting Crunches, Hanging Raises, Broomstick Twists, and the Shape up. He gives step by step instructions for each exercise, along with helpful tips. With the Floor Crunches, he lets readers know that they should lying down, hands behind the head, knees bent, and feet firmly on the floor, so when they crunch or roll up their knees close in on their elbows.

That said, the contraction in the core is key, so he suggests that you thoughtfully give your core muscles a squeeze, before releasing the movement. While you would think he starts off doing an aggressive number of sets, that’s not the case. He actually indicates that doing two sets consisting of 5, 10, or 15 reps, and moving toward the goal of doing 30 per set, is optimal. Whether doing the Floor Crunch or the Twisting Crunches, Stallone suggests they offer a much more effective workout than standard sit ups.

While he adds his own flair to this standard stomach fat burning exercises, Sly also gives readers the inside scoop on how he does more “exotic” exercises, like Hanging Raises, which require the use of elbow slings or support pads that you can usually find at a dip machine or training station at the gym. Once the slings are in place, and you’re in position, he suggests leaning back slightly before bringing your knees up toward your chest, and then bringing them as close as you can. This move is done ever so slowly to full engage the core. You then move back to the starting position, and do another rep. He notes that you may want to start off doing two sets consisting of 10 reps.

In the Sylvester Stallone’s Ab Workout he also discusses the value of doing Broomstick Twists, and as you may have guessed, you’ll need a broom stick or a another long stick to properly do this exercise. But you’ll also need an incline bench set at a 45 degree angle. Once you’re ready to get started, sit up on the bench and don’t forget to secure your feet under the support bar. Then bring the broomstick behind your head, and lay it across your shoulders, making sure that your arms are outstretched to support the stick.

Once in position, twist to the left and then to right on the stick’s axis point, and you should feel a big burn in your core. If you feel the burn, you know your doing it correctly. Sly also lets readers know that he locks his knees and then rolls his stomach up to get the most out of this exercise. This workout can be found in its entirety posted on several men’s fitness and magazine sites.
